Princesses of the World

In 2001, Mattel followed its successful line of Dolls of the World with the Princesses of the World. Apparently this line was not as successful as it was much shorter lived than the 20 year span of the DOTW line.

Princess of India

Princess of India™ is awe-inspiring in her sari, the best-known type of Indian clothing. Made of soft shimmering materials, this extraordinary pink sari features golden accents and is draped around her body and over her head in an intricate style. Like some princesses, she wears a golden headpiece called a tikka, a forehead ornament. The tikka hangs above her bindi, the dot on her forehead. A golden choker and earrings complete this wonderful costume.

 

Princess of The French Court

Princess of the French Court™ is inspired by the grandeur of the Age of Chivalry, a time of romance and valor. She wears a regal gown of deep, rich purple, the color of royalty. The split skirt is designed with an inset of purple and golden jacquard. Lavishly embellished with golden trim and a gleaming golden medallion, the dress is complemented by a golden ring and earrings. The final crowning touch is her golden tiara incorporating a fleur-de-lis (lily) design, the symbol of the royal family of France that proudly decorated their coat of arms.

Princess of The Incas

Princess of the Incas™ is inspired by the regal dynasty of an exotic age. She wears a taffeta dress of deep blue with a colorful decorated border patterned after authentic Incan textiles. Throughout this empire, it is believed that the kings and queens are descendants of Inti, the powerful Sun god. And so, the divine princess wears many pieces of dazzling golden jewelry. Gold is the symbol of Inti and a precious metal that was owned only by royalty. Golden embellishments include arm cuffs, a necklace, and a crown.

 

Princess of China

Princess of China™ wears a traditional gown which features an exotic floral pattern and is inspired by the wardrobe of the Qing dynasty. Spectacular face paint, an elaborately designed hairstyle, and golden drop earrings and crown create a truly regal vision.

Princess of Ireland

Princess of Ireland™ wears an olive green gown with detailing inspired by the artwork of the Celtic people. She wears a forest-green cape adorned with a golden brooch reminiscent of the legendary Tara Brooch of the ancient Celts. The final regal touch is a lovely golden crown that rests atop her long red wavy hair.

Princess of The Nile

Princess of the Nile™ exudes royal glamour in a rippled golden dress with an overlay of sheer white fabric that wraps around her shoulders. A magnificent golden pectoral necklace ordained in colors of turquoise, red, and blue displays a matching centerpiece "medallion". Additional jewelry includes golden bracelets, and a stunning golden crown featuring a serpent ornament - an Egyptian symbol of royalty. Exotic face paint and tiny shoulder-length braids complete this princess' regal ensemble.

Princess of South Africa

Princess of South Africa™ proudly wears a traditional Ndebele-inspired dress. Its black and white patterning is topped with a colorful ngurara (intricately decorated blanket) cape. In Ndebele culture, tight-fitting neck rings are considered the most attractive and essential accessories. She wears golden-colored leg and neck rings called izixolwana. A golden and red headpiece and hoop earrings give her regal beauty. Finally, she carries her own dancing mace to carry on her heritage.

 

Princess of The Danish Court

Princess of the Danish Court™ is dressed in a beautiful light blue, ivory, and golden gown decorated with lace and a golden bow. Her luxurious blonde hair is upswept. Finally, she wears dangling golden earrings, a golden ribbon choker, and a regal crown to show her royal station.

 

Princess of The Portuguese Empire

Princess of the Portuguese Empire™ wears a glorious gown of jacquard and burgundy panne velvet, inspired by Renaissance fashion. A delicate cap of golden metallic lace tops her glorious hair.

 

 

2003

Princess of Japan

Princess of Japan™ hails from the late 19th century. Although she often wears elaborate costumes for ceremonial events, today she wears a traditional Kimono perfect for an informal outing away from the palace. Her long sleeved Kimono(furosode) is beautifully decorated in a colorful floral pattern in orange and pink tones. A green Obi wraps at her waist and is accented with a white cord(obijimi). She wears Zori sandals and her near black hair, worn up in a bun, is adorned with three white flowers.

 

Princess of The Vikings

Inspired by the legendary Nordic seafarers, Princess of the Vikings™ is independent and powerful. She wears a flowing gown, worn with a golden mesh overskirt and breastplate. Inspired by the battles of the legendary Vikings, her trusty sword hangs from a golden cord that wraps at her waist. Her strawberry blond braids are topped with a bold golden helmet, complete with "wing" ornamentation.

 

Princess of Ancient Greece

Princess of Ancient Greece™ wears a rippled, copper-colored dress called a "chiton" that flares at the bottom. A square sheer wrap decorated with a golden Grecian pattern is pinned at her right shoulder with one of two golden pins that are shaped in a lion's head. She wears a golden serpent arm cuff and completes her outfit with a golden laurel crown atop her curly dark brown hair, worn up in a classic Grecian chignon.

Princess of Cambodia

Princess of Cambodia™ wears a slim silhouetted skirt that is fashioned from teal fabric that wraps around her, cinches at her waist, and drapes over her shoulder. The wrap, which features a golden geometric floral print, comes together in a vertical layer of pleats in front. A golden braided belt secures the wrap at her waist and features a golden buckle.She has long dark brown hair which cascades down from beneath her royal crown with faux sapphires and emeralds. Her outfit is accented by many golden elements including dangling earrings, an intricate armband, a braided golden sash, and golden shoes.

Princess of England

Princess of England™ wears a lovely gown featuring a rose colored satin bodice and a rosy pink skirt decorated with golden renaissance inspired patterns. The square neckline is edged with pink and golden trim. Soft rosy pink sleeves elegantly drape off her shoulder over a full golden undersleeve. Golden embellishments accent her outfit, including a golden cord that ties at her waist, a brooch, and a regal crown, based on the steeple-shaped headdresses of the era.

 

2004

Princess of Ancient Mexico

From about 1428 until 1521, a culture grew in a vast land from the Gulf of Mexico to central Mexico and as far south as Guatemala. In what is now Mexico City lay the capital of the ancient Aztec people formerly known as Tenochtitlån. Here there is a huge temple, many canals and a royal palace. A beautiful young girl with long dark hair and deep brown eyes lives in the royal palace. Like all nobles, she wears clothes made of brightly colored cotton with decorations made of gold and feathers. The most prized feathers of all are the iridescent green ones from a bird called the quetzal.

Princess of The Navajo

In the western United States a peaceful culture of Native American Indians thrives. Rooted in ancient traditions of respect for the land and nature as well as a powerful spiritual heritage, the tribal people known as the Navajo, endures. Princess of the Navajo™ is a princess of the proud Navajo Nation wearing traditional dress and authentic jewelry. Many Navajos continue to wear traditional clothing daily and especially for ceremonial or social gatherings. Princess of the Navajo™ wears a woven shawl in ceremonial colors with symbolic and stylized patterns. Princess of the Navajo™ also wears a necklace of turquoise-colored beads with a “squash blossom” pendant and a “concho” belt in silver and turquoise tones with earrings and a sunburst broach. The long printed skirt and dark open-necked shirt are consistent with everyday wear for most Navajo women even today.

 

Princess of Imperial Russia

The vast and mysterious land of Imperial Russia was ruled by the czar and czarina and their daughter, the princess, was known as the Grand Duchess. The ruling family of mother Russia lived in many magnificent palaces and enjoyed untold riches. Princess of The Korean Court

Inspired by Korea’s historically traditional costume, the Princess of the Korean Court™ wears a hanbok in the beautiful colors of spring. It is customary to celebrate Sol Nal, New Year’s Day, on the first day of spring, which is also the first day of the first month of the new lunar year. It is a happy day of joyous celebration and honors the heritage of the princess and her family.

 

Princess of The Renaissance

The Renaissance was a time of rebirth for the arts and education in Europe and especially Italy. During this stimulating era culture, philosophy, poetry and the sciences flourished. The Princess of the Renaissance™ is a privileged child of the beautiful city of Florence living in an exciting time of renewal and enlightenment. She wears an elegant gown and headdress like those worn in Italy during the 14th century by noblewomen and members of the wealthy merchant class.

Princess of The Pacific Islands

The Hawaiian people live on beautiful tropical islands in the Pacific Ocean. In this tropical paradise, a beautiful girl with long black hair walks along the shore saying “Aloha” to everyone she sees – this greeting means both hello and good bye. Her father is the chief of the people. The princess loves surfing known as He’e nalu or wave-sliding in old Hawaiian. The Princess of the Pacific Islands™ wears a traditional island dress known as a muu muu and a lei of "plumeria", a fragrant blossom native to the islands.

 

Princess of Holland

Inspired by the fashion of 17th century Holland, The Princess of Holland™ wears a golden gown with an elaborately printed bodice, faux pearl bracelets, a necklace with a golden charm and teardrop earrings. The Princess of Holland™ lived during what is known as a Golden Age for the arts in Europe, and especially the Netherlands. Many well-known artists flourished during this period.
